“Personally I’m always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught. – Winston Churchill
I can identify with Prime Minister Churchill on this. You see, I need a spirit of learning to overcome the obstacles of life that stand between me and my dreams, but learning requires humility (not one of my strongest natural traits), because it’s only in humility that I’m willing to recognize and acknowledge that I don’t know it all so that I can submit to a teacher who can fill the gaps of ignorance and correct my errors in logic, but this submission requires a slaying of pride – a dragon that refuses to die, and that’s what sometimes makes me dislike learning.
So, how can we more effectively battle this dragon of pride?
- Clarify your Dreams – What do you love more than your current reality and your pride?
- Determine what you need to learn – How you will overcome the obstacles that lie between where you are today and your Dreams?
- Find your guide(s) – Who has successfully navigated those obstacles before? It’s in their success and willingness to pass on their secrets that you gain respect for their wisdom.
- Measure your progress – How will you identify and celebrate your victories and learn from defeat?
My Girls, I Hope and Pray that you will grow in humility and love of learning even more than I – that you will see more clearly in the mirror of ignorance and error than I, and in this, you will gain the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual ability to overcome the challenges that lie between the reality of today and the achievement of your dreams in the tomorrows to come.
Challenger Question: What do you need to learn TODAY?
God’s Word: 2nd Timothy 3:16-17, James 1:5, Proverbs 1:7, 4:5-6, 9:9 & 22:6, and Philippians 4:8-9
