Brandy, Addy, and Grace,
“Don’t count the days, make the days count.” – Muhamad Ali
On this day 17 years ago, there were many people just Counting The Days, waiting for something to happen – a vacation, a new job or retirement, a move here or there… Then 19 terrorists in four jet airliners changed everything, and all those days that they had spent just waiting were laid to waste. Others on that day were Making TODAY Count, living with the hope of tomorrow and anticipating that TODAY matters, because they were intentionally living with purpose.
Sadly, this scenario plays out everywhere, every day… it doesn’t have to be so dramatic that it sends countries to war for 17 years. You see, life is fragile, and we don’t know what TODAY will bring. A few misguided inches or untimely seconds here or there and there’s an accident or a 60-second phone call from someone changes everything.
My Friends, there’s a difference between anticipating an upcoming event or season in life and just Counting The Days. Anticipation leads to excitement and vitality that flows throughout all aspects of where we are TODAY, while Counting The Days, on the other hand, has a connotation of merely existing or surviving TODAY – waiting for What’s Next to begin living and thriving. That’s to say that when we live with anticipation, we’ll make TODAY Count, but when we are just Counting The Days, TODAY doesn’t really matter, because in reality, for those Counters, TODAY could be completely blotted out and no one’s life would be affected because they’re choosing to wait to live out their God-given unique purpose for some event that may never come.
My Girls, I Hope and Pray that you will live out your dreams every day with the anticipation that what you do TODAY will matter in the tomorrows to come.
Challenge Question: What will you do TODAY that will make it count?
God’s Word: Ephesians 5:15-21, Galatians 6:9-10, John 12:35, Proverbs 3:27-28, and Luke 12:13-34
